SayIt Cannot Hear Me

Issue:

SayIt does not hear me. There is no movement in the audio meter when I speak.

What to do:
  • Make sure your microphone is not muted.
  • If you're running SayIt on Mac with Java 8 Update 271, see SayIt on Mac Cannot Use Microphone
  • Try changing your dictation and/or voice shortcut hotkey to something else.
    • To change your dictation hotkey, open the Dictations menu in SayIt and select Set Dictation Hotkey. Select a different keyboard key.
    • To change your voice shortcut hotkey, open the Shortcuts menu in SayIt and select Set Voice Shortcut Hotkey. Select a different keyboard key.
  • If using a USB device, try plugging your microphone into a different USB port on the computer, then exit and re-launch SayIt.
  • If you unplugged your laptop from a docking station and/or unplugged your microphone, plug your microphone back in, then exit and re-launch SayIt.
  • If you have an ergonomic keyboard, check to see that the F-Lock is not on.
  • Verify that the audio is working on the computer and microphone:
    1. Exit SayIt while you test the device.
    2. Open another recording application, like Windows Voice Recorder 
    3. Use your microphone to make a recording with that application.
    4. Listen to the recording to make sure the recording was successful. (If not, the problem is unrelated to SayIt.)
  • Try exiting and re-launching SayIt to see if that fixes the problem. 
  • Try rebooting your computer.
  • If possible, try a different microphone brand or type to see if that works.
  • If the problem persists, contact support for additional help.
