November 2020

nVoq.Voice

New Features & Improvements in nVoq.Voice

  • Auto Sign In - nVoq.Voice will automatically sign in on application startup using the last system and user account information entered. The setting is enabled by default for new users, though they must sign in at least once to initiate it. While this setting is enabled, Voice will automatically sign in with the same system, username, and password whenever it is launched. If Launch on Startup is also enabled, Voice will launch and authenticate automatically when your computer starts up. If you should need to log in to a different system or with different user credentials, you can disable this on the Settings screen and then close the Voice client. When Voice is launched again you will have the opportunity to enter a different system and/or username and password. (B-15343, 9/1/2020)
  • Audio Compression for Dictation - Dictation with compressed audio has been implemented in order to improve the dictation streaming experience on low-bandwidth connections. (B-15585, 9/1/2020)
  • Install Without Windows Warning Message - The "Windows protected your PC" warning message that appeared when you first installed Voice on your computer (on which you had to click the Run Anyway button to proceed with the installation) no longer appears. The application now uses an Extended Validation (EV) key that ensures validity and security of the application. (B-15642, 10/6/2020)
  • Back-to-Back Dictations - In the current release, nVoq.Voice has to completely process a dictation before another dictation can be recorded. In 16.0, the ability to process quick back-to-back dictations has been added. This alleviates an issue in which the Voice client can get into a bad state when the dictation button is pressed repeatedly in quick succession. When a new dictation is started text from the original dictation will be cleared from he speech bubble above the dictation button and the bubble will only contain the transcript for your new dictation. It is possible for the last bit of text from the first dictation to not be transcribed when starting a new dictation. Improvements to this process will continue under additional work items. (B-15854, 10/14/2020)
  • Microphone Menu Auto Updates with Added/Removed USB Microphones - The Microphone drop-down menu on the Settings window will now automatically update when microphones are added or removed from your computer, and you can immediately select the microphone to use for dictation. If you have "Default Microphone" selected on the menu, Voice will automatically start to use the added microphone if the new microphone is your computer's default microphone. In some instances you may need to re-open the Microphone menu to see changes. This is currently implemented for USB headset microphones (hand-held USB microphones are not yet supported). (B-15862, 10/15/2020)
  • Voice Dictation Pastes Successfully into Citrix Apps - Voice dictation can now successfully paste text into a Citrix-published application, including "new line" and "new paragraph" formatting commands in the transcript. (B-15674, 10/20/2020)
  • Sign Out Option - A Sign Out option has been added to the system tray menu for Voice, allowing you to log out of the application without closing it down completely. When Sign Out is selected from the Voice menu in the system tray, your account is logged out of the Voice application and the Sign In window opens. (B-15865, 10/22/2020)
  • Microphone Menu Auto Updates with Added/Removed Bluetooth Microphones - The Microphone drop-down menu on the Settings window will now automatically update when a Bluetooth microphone is connected to or disconnected from your computer, and you can immediately select the microphone to use for dictation. If you have "Default Microphone" selected on the menu, Voice will automatically start to use the Bluetooth microphone if it is configured as your computer's default microphone. In some instances you may need to re-open the Microphone menu to see changes. Note that Bluetooth microphones are generally not as accurate as USB microphones. As with any microphone, you should test a Bluetooth device to make sure your dictation accuracy is acceptable for you. (B-15501, 10/26/2020)
  • All Files Deleted on Uninstall - In the previous release, when you uninstalled the Voice app from your computer, the nvoq-voice folder and files (located in the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\ directory) would remain. In 16.0, when you uninstall the Voice application, the entire nvoq-voice folder and all of its files are removed so you don't have files on your computer that you no longer need. (B-15893, 10/27/2020)
  • Troubleshoot Mode - A new Troubleshoot Mode toggle has been added to the Settings screen which will set the logging level for the Voice client to "debug" (the highest logging level). This setting does not enable logging for the user on the Logging page in SayIt Administrator or nVoq.Administrator, nor can it be enabled by an administrator in SayIt Administrator or nVoq.Administrator. The setting is off (disabled) by default,  but when it is enabled it remains so indefinitely until manually disabled on the Settings screen in the client. When enabled in the client, if the user logs out or closes Voice log data collection begins immediately on re-launch of Voice (as opposed to kicking in once the user has logged in). The user can send the logs to the Administrator console by clicking the Upload Logs button on the Settings screen, and this is the only way to send logs to the Admin console. Administrators cannot "request" the log from the Admin console.  (B-15874, 11/3/2020)
  • Single Sign On Capability with Microsoft Azure - Voice has been configured to work with Microsoft Azure single-sign on (SSO) functionality. The automatic sign in capability of Voice works with this sign in method just like it does with an nVoq account. It is necessary to work with nVoq to get the app configured for your company to use this login method. (B-15794, 11/4/2020)

Bug Fixes in nVoq.Voice

  • Fix for Accidental Login to HTTP Protocol Leads to Problems - If you type in the URL manually and accidentally use the http protocol instead of https, the system would let you sign in but you would experience issues with dictation such as no transcript being returned and inability to upload log files. This has been fixed. Changes have been made to automatically correct the an http protocol to https after inspecting the user-supplied system URL. (D-12177, 9/17/2020)
  • Fix for Popup Only User Can Perform Dictations - A user with an account that has access to only popup shortcuts could perform dictations in Voice. This has been fixed. Now when a popup-only account logs in to Voice the user sees an error message that says, "User [username] is forbidden." This same error message will appear for any account that is not configured to use dictation, including voice shortcut accounts and admin only accounts. (D-12187, 10/20/2020)
  • Fix for End of Dictation Audio Cut Off - It was possible for the last bit of dictation audio to be cut off and not transcribed. Improvements to this process have been made to keep this from happening. Further improvements were made to this process to improve the speed for faster dictations. (B-15581,10/26/2020; B-15898, 10/28/2020)
  • Improved Message When Unable to Access System - In the previous release, Voice would display a message that said, "Unknown error." if it could not connect to the server listed under the System menu on the sign in screen. This was confusing, as it did not explain the actual problem. This message has now been improved. In the event that Voice cannot connect to the system selected, the message will now say, "Could not connect to server." (D-12227, 10/26/2020)
  • Fix for User Log Files Include Too Much Info at "Warn" Level - A message was being posted for each successful dictation at in the user log file at "warn" level, which was not useful. The logger level was changed from "warn" to "debug", so now the message only appears if the client is in troubleshoot mode or logging is turned on for the account. (D-12283, 11/3/2020)
  • Fix for Voice in Error State After Alt+F4/Right-Click on Window to Close - Attempts to close the Voice app by using the Alt+F4 keys on an open Voice window (like Settings or the About) or right-clicking on the Voice icon for the Settings or About window in the Windows task bar would get Voice into a bad state and present a JavaScript error with further attempts to close the application. This has been fixed. You can now successfully close Voice by using Alt+F4 on the Settings or About windows or by right-clicking on the Voice icon in the Windows task bar. Note however that you cannot close Voice by using Alt+F4 unless you have one of those windows open. (D-12095, 11/3/2020)
