Voice iOS Screen Goes Dark During Dictation

Prev Next

Issue:

While in the middle of dictation the screen of my device goes dark as if I am not actively using the device.

What to do:

This can occur because of your device’s screen timeout feature, which turns off the display after a period of inactivity to save battery. During dictation, Voice for iOS may not register continuous screen activity, causing the display to dim or turn off.

If this is happening on your device, follow the instructions below to fix it:

  1. On the dictation screen, tap the profile iconiOSMV-Profile-ICON-2020.png to open the quick access menu.
  2. On the quick access menu, slide the toggle to Keep screen on during dictation.

  3. Your screen will now remain active for the duration of your dictation. Though this setting won’t keep the screen on continuously (it will still turn off if you’re not dictating or interacting with the screen), it will still use more battery than if you have it turned off. After you enable this setting, a warning will display to let you know that.
