Article Summary

16.1 nVoq.Voice Release
March 2, 2021

nVoq.Voice

  • nVoq.Voice Versioning Capability - The ability to have a different version number for nVoq.Voice than the rest of the nVoq platform has been added. A new license agreement would need to be accepted any time there is a new version of nVoq.Voice that it is not the same as the rest of the platform. A new user property is added for each accepted license agreement. (B-15783, 11/18/2020)
  • Improved Movability of Dictation Button - In the past release it could be difficult to find an area on the dictation button border to drag the button. Now dots have been added to the tail/tag part of the border that indicate where you must click to select the button to drag it. This is also where you can place your cursor and right-click to open the context menu from which you can close the application. (B-15342, 11/30/2020)
  • Voice Windows Cannot Be Made Too Small - In order to keep the Sign In, About, and Settings windows from being lost on a user's screen, changes were made to prevent you from making the windows excessively small. The windows can still be made smaller to a certain point, and whatever size is configured for one window will apply to all of them EXCEPT for the Shortcut menu. (B-15657, 12/14/2020)
  • Accept EULA Once Per Version - With nVoq.Voice being released outside of the regular nVoq product release schedule, the end-user license agreement (EULA) could display even if you had already accepted a license agreement for the released version, which is unnecessary. Going forward, we will keep track of the specific version of EULA you have already accepted so you will only have to accept it once per product version.  (B-15908, 12/22/2020; B-15978, 1/13/2021)
  • Default Microphone Now Includes Actual Microphone Name - The Microphone menu on the Settings window will now list the name of the device that is the default microphone instead of just saying "Default microphone". For example, if your computer's default microphone is a Plantronics Blackwire C210, the Microphone menu will now say "Default - Microphone (Plantronics Blackwire C210)". This information is also listed in nVoq.Administrator on the Detail Review & Correct page Timeline for dictation events. (B-15787, 1/13/2021)
  • New Home Healthcare Topic - A new topic, Home Healthcare and Hospice, has been added to the Topic menu on the Settings window. This change requires the database to be updated to 16.1, so end-users will not see this topic in the menu until that happens later this year (Spring). (B-15944, 1/14/2021; B-15056, 2/18/2021)
  • Improvements to Updating Microphone List View - In the previous release, when adding or removing microphones on the computer you would sometimes have to close and reopen the Microphone menu on the Settings window of Voice to see changes. This has been improved. The Microphone list in Voice now updates automatically when a new USB or Bluetooth device is added to or removed from the computer without having to close and reopen the list to see changes. You may have to wait a moment to see the changes. If there is no microphone connected to or enabled on your computer at all, the menu will now say "No microphone". When a microphone is later enabled on your computer, Voice will automatically use it as the default microphone. (B-15864, 1/18/2021)
  • Canada System Added to Sign In - The Canada system is now listed on the screen where you select your system and login method (nVoq or Microsoft). The default system is still set as Healthcare, but now you can click on that system to open a menu and select the Canada system so you don't have to type it in. You can still type in a different system name (like Test), and you need to click your mouse onto the white space outside of the system menu to close the menu after typing a new system into it. After you close Voice, systems you enter manually into that menu will be remembered so you don't have to type them again. (B-15323, 1/20/2021)
  • Record Dictation with nVoq Wireless Microphones - You can use the nVoq Wireless Microphones (Android or iOS) to record dictation in nVoq.Voice. Configure Voice to use the Wireless Microphone on the Settings screen. Shortcut functionality in the Wireless Microphones does not work with Voice, but does appear to be available on the Wireless Microphone screen (it just won't do anything). This will be improved in a future release. Also at this time the Wireless Microphones only work with nVoq accounts; they do not work if connected to Voice via Microsoft Azure. In order to support dictation using the Wireless Microphone, Voice allows dictation using HTTP instead of WebSockets. Just like with WebSocket dictations, HTTP dictations on Voice use HYPOTHESISTEXT and support back-to-back dictations. When NOT using the Wireless Mic app, Voice dictation defaults to using WebSockets. (B-15877, 12/16/2020; B-15876, 12/8/2020; B-15520, B-15942, 1/21/2021)
  • Time Zone Info Added to Log Files - The two files that are sent to nVoq.Administrator when a user uploads logs from Voice (main.log and renderer.log) do not contain information about the user’s time zone. It's helpful to know the user's time zone when looking for dictations with which the user may be having problems. Time zone offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), such as -07:00,  has now been added to the time stamps for activities in these logs. (D-12273, 1/21/2021)
  • Command Line Install/Uninstall - Instructions for installing and uninstalling nVoq.Voice using command line have been added to the Voice documentation. This can be used to install Voice in any location you want and/or on multiple computers so that end-users don't have to install it themselves. These instructions are available in the online help now. (B-15949, 1/26/2021)
  • Voice Tracks Product Used per Dictation - Voice will now track the vendor ("nVoq Incorporated"), product ("Voice"), and version (e.g. "16.0.1-80"), with each HTTP or WebSocket dictation so that nVoq teams can see which products are being used. These parameters will be listed on the Detail Review & Correct page Timeline tab in the 16.1 release of nVoq.Administrator. They are also available via API.  This information is NOT tracked for shortcuts run from Voice at this time. (B-15933, 12/10/2020; B-15913, 1/27/2021; see also B-15918)
  • Fix for Duplicate Dictation Transcripts - In the previous release, if you clicked the dictation button quickly before allowing the text bubble (above the dictation button) to close from your previous dictation, the transcript from your previous dictation would be pasted twice into your application. Since the extra clicks of the dictation button following the original dictation included no words, the transcript that remained in the text bubble was being recognized as the transcript for both the original and subsequent "dictations". This has been fixed in 16.1. Instead of pasting the contents of the text bubble as the dictation transcript, Voice will now pull the transcript from the dictation response. The extra clicks of the dictation button in this situation appear as zero word count dictations on the Review & Correct page. • Run Insert Shortcuts from Voice - Voice can now run insert shortcuts. Click the F4 key (by default) while running Voice to open a popup shortcut menu from which you can click on a shortcut to insert text where you last placed your cursor. The shortcut menu only lists Insert shortcuts. The  menu is always on top of other applications on the desktop, and can be moved by clicking on the nVoq logo in the upper-left corner on the menu window and dragging the window. The same hotkey will open and close the shortcut menu. You can also open or close the shortcut menu from the Voice system tray menu. You can change the popup shortcut hotkey in the Settings menu, doing so will also change the hotkey for SayIt. Shortcut usage from Voice appears in all appropriate reports in the administrator console. (B-15935, 1/20/2021; B-15934, 2/5/2021)Administrator Can Enable Logging - Logging for nVoq.Voice can now be enabled by an administrator in the admin console. When this happens, the logging level is increased and client logs are uploaded automatically to the admin console when you exit or sign out of nVoq.Voice. (B-15712, 2/15/2021)
  • Design Shortcuts Link - The Design Shortcuts link on the nVoq.Voice system tray menu opens a web browser with the sign in screen for nVoq.Administrator. Users can enter their nVoq.Voice credentials to sign in to nVoq.Administrator, and this is where shortcuts for Voice are created, edited, and deleted. Client-only users (without and Admin Role) will go directly to the Shortcuts page on sign in, where they can view all shortcuts and shortcut folders assigned to their account. They can create, edit, and delete account shortcuts. Users with an Admin Role are taken to the home page for nVoq.Administrator. They can create, edit, and delete account and organization shortcuts available to their Admin Level. (B-15935, 2/16/2021)
  • Analytics Updated for Individual Systems - In order to gather data about Voice usage on each nVoq system, application events are now reporting to the property that is associated with a specific system. For example, if you sign into the Healthcare system, events are reported to the healthcare property. Analytic events include launching Voice, signing in, signing out, opening the About window, opening the Settings window, opening the Shortcuts menu, and clicking the Upload Logs button on the Settings window.
