Mobile Voice for iOS - Version History

20.0.0 Release (GA)

Release Date T.B.D. (est. June timeframe) - See Production Deployments for deployment process start date (when available).

  • Space Bar Displays Keyboard Name - To make it easier for clinicians to ensure that they are using the nVoq keyboard for typing and dictation, the space bar now says “nVoq Mobile Voice.” (D-13625, 12/10/2024, 19.3.0 build 0.1.0-rc.3)

  • Fix for Recording Continues After Stopping Dictation - In the previous release, when you tap the dictation button to stop your dictation, recording continued for a few more seconds and the extra audio was included in the transcript. This has been fixed. In the 20.0.0 release, when the dictation button is tapped to stop a dictation, the recording stops within one second. This allows Mobile Voice to capture the end of the recording when the dictation button is tapped very quickly before speaking ends. (D-13682, 2/6/2025, 20.0.0 0.2.0-rc.9; D-13682, 2/21/2025, 20.0.0 0.2.0-rc.16)

  • Mobile Voice Keyboard Updated to Closer Match Functionality and Key Location as Apple Keyboard - Tab and shift keys have been added to the Mobile Voice keyboard so that it now more closely matches the functionality of the native Apple keyboard. The key that you tap to switch between the numbers/symbols and letters keyboards has swapped places with the globe key (that is used to switch keyboards) to match the position of that key on the Apple keyboard as well. These changes should help those struggling when switching between keyboards to type faster. (B-17982, 2/26/2025, 0.3.0-rc.3)

  • Forgot Password Link Updated - The “Forgot password?” link that appears under the Sign In button now says “Forgot username or password?” to make it clear that a clinician can get help with both username and password from this link. (D-13679, 2/27/2025, 20.0.0 0.3.0-rc.3)

  • Fix for “New Line” and “New Paragraph” Not Included in Pasted Transcript - In previous releases, when starting a dictation with, "new line" or "new paragraph," the final transcript does not include the one carriage return (one blank line) for “new line,” or two carriage returns (two blank lines) for “new paragraph.” This has been fixed. In the 20.0.0 release a dictation can be started by dictating "new line" or "new paragraph" and the blank line(s) will be included in the final transcript when pasted into the originating application. (D-13729, 3/27/2025, 20.0.0 0.3.0rc12)

  • Fix for No Space Between Dictations - In the previous releases Mobile Voice does not automatically insert a space between separate dictations. This has been fixed in the 20.0.0 release. (D-13730, 3/27/2025, 20.0.0 0.3.0 rc12)

  • Added “nVoq” to App Name - The name of the keyboard that appears underneath the icon on the home screen of the device has been updated to include our company name. Due to limitations in iOS the name appears as “nVoqMobileVoice.” (B-18006, 3/28/2025, 20.0.0 0.3.0rc12)

  • Edit Text and Dictate Multiple Times On the Dictation Screen - You can now edit text and dictate multiple times on the dictation screen before sending it back to your application! The keyboard is available on the dictation screen when a dictation is not in progress for easy edits. You can tap the dictation button to continue adding text at the end of the transcript, place your cursor anywhere to insert text, or select text to dictate or type over it. Once finished, tap the send icon to return the final transcript to your application. (You must return to your application before starting a new dictation in the dictation screen.) In your original application, you can select text in the transcript and tap the dictation button to dictate over it, or edit any text using dictation by selecting and copying it, tapping the dictation button, and then pasting it into the dictation window. The updated transcript will then be sent back, replacing the originally selected text. These enhancements make it easier to refine all of your notes using dictation. (S-17952, 4/3/2025, 20.0.0 1.0.0-rc.1)

  • Improved Sign In Screen - The sign in screen has changed and the System is now selected first, before the username and password are entered. Moreover, the System field is now a drop-down menu that includes the Healthcare, Canada, and Test system, with Healthcare being the default. If your system is not listed you can also type a URL into this field. The last system used for sign in will be remembered for next sign in. (S-17761, 4/2/2025,  20.0.0 0.3.0 rc17)

  • Next Word Typing Suggestions - While you are typing Mobile Voice now presents suggestions for words that might come next. Start typing a word and then look to the bar above the keyboard to see suggestions. On iPad, five next word suggestions display in the suggestion bar, on iPhone three suggestions display. The list is not scrollable. Note that in this phase Mobile Voice does not learn from what has been typed previously to improve suggestions, but that work is in progress. (S-17981, 4/3/2025, 20.0.0 1.0.0-rc.1)

  • Fix for Admin-Only Accounts Allowed Sign In - In the previous releases Mobile Voice would allow users with a System Administrator account or an account with an Administrator Role and no Client Access to sign in. When these users would attempt to record as dictation, the recording would automatically stop (because these accounts do not have Client Access and therefore cannot dictate). In the 20.0.0 release Mobile Voice will prevent these users from signing in. (S-18016, 4/17/2025, 20.0.0 1.2.0)

  • Keyboard Updates - Changes were made to the Mobile Voice keyboard to make it more similar to the native iOS keyboard when in portrait or landscape mode. The keyboard is now the same height as the native keyboard. The return, shift, tab, and caps lock keys and the space bar are the same size as on the native keyboard, and words replace symbols on the delete, return, shift, tab, and caps lock keys. Note that if you use the return key after a sentence that has no ending punctuation, the first word of the next sentence will not be capitalized automatically. (S-18096 & S-18097, 4/17/2025, 20.0.0 1.0.0rc-4; S-18138, 4/17/2025, 20.0.0 1.0.0 rc2)

19.2.1 Release (Alpha)

February 2025

  • Sign Out Link Removed from Active Dictation - In the previous release if you tap on Sign Out while you are actively dictating, the dictation was not stopped. If you signed in again, the dictation recording would still be in progress. This has been fixed. In the 19.2.1 release the Sign Out button is hidden while a dictation is in progress so that you cannot tap it accidentally while recording. The button reappears again once you stop the recording. This also changes the sign out process slightly, as you must now tap the red microphone icon to stop a recording before tapping the link to Sign Out. (D-13588, 1/9/2025, 20.0.0 build 0.1.0-rc10)

  • Fix for Dictation Automatically Deactivating on First Access - In the previous release dictations automatically stop recording after one second the first time one is started after opening a third-party application. The work-around is to tap the microphone icon again to start a new recording. In the 19.2.1 release Mobile Voice will stay in a recording state (indicated by the red microphone icon) until you stop the dictation yourself, even the first time you attempt to dictate into an application. (D-13627, 1/13/2025, 20.0.0 build 0.1.0-rc19)

  • Fix for Dictation Stops After Sign Out/Sign In - In the previous release the first dictation started after signing out and signing back in to the keyboard automatically stops after one second when initiated from a third-party app. This has been fixed. (D-13685, 2/7/2025, 19.2.1 build 0.0.13)

19.2.0 Release (Alpha)

September 2024 - See Production Deployments for deployment process start date.

  • Alpha Release of Mobile Voice for iOS - Document patient notes with your voice on your mobile Apple device using nVoq Mobile Voice, our HIPAA-compliant keyboard with dictation now available for iOS! Due to differences in iOS versus the Android operating system, Mobile Voice for iOS functions very differently from Mobile Voice for Android, but uses the same nVoq dictation on the backend. That means you can use the same formatting commands, substitutions, and vocabulary that are available on all nVoq applications. (B-17667, 19.2.0 b63, 9/16/2024)
