nVoq Dictation
The updates in this section impact all dictation clients, including nVoq Voice and Mobile Voice, as well as ISV partner clients using nVoq dictation.
Sentence Model Limit Increase - To help improve dictation accuracy, the total limit of sentence modeling documents that can be added (in nVoq Administrator) for organization or accounts has been increased from 1.0MB to 2.0MB. This expanded capacity allows more customized data to be used for modeling, supporting more accurate speech recognition tailored to your documentation needs. (S-18245, 5/29/2025, 20.1.0 b49)
nVoq Voice
New Intelligent Formatting Warning Message - To help ensure you don’t lose your Intelligent Formatting summary, SOAP note, or custom formatting, a helpful reminder now appears if you try to close the Intelligent Formatting window without clicking the COPY button first. This message gives you the option to return to your transcript or close the window. You can also choose not to see the message again—and if you change your mind later, your administrator can easily restore it. It’s all about keeping your workflow smooth and stress-free. (S-18146, 5/8/2025, 20.1.0 b34 - Voice build 1.1.2)
Fix for Updates Link on About Screen - In the previous release, the updates link on the About screen intended to display current release updates was pointing to the wrong location. This issue has been resolved. The link now takes you to a new dedicated Voice Version History page, which will be updated with each new deployment of Voice. (D-13769, 5/13/2025, 20.1.0 b39 - Voice build 1.1.5)
Improved Visibility and Expanded Character Limit for Note Assist Failure Responses - Note Assist failure responses—introduced in the previous release to appear beneath failed categories—are designed to help you understand what’s missing from your note. In this release, we’ve made two key improvements to enhance their usefulness: 1. The character limit in nVoq Administrator has been increased, allowing administrators to write more detailed and informative messages that offer clearer guidance for meeting documentation requirements. 2. Failure responses now appear in red text on a pink background, easier to notice and reducing the chance of missing important feedback. These enhancements help ensure that Note Assist continues to support a smoother, more efficient documentation workflow. (S-18202, 5/13/2025, 20.1.0 b37 - Voice build 1.1.4; S-18191, 5/13/2025, 20.1.0 b39 - Voice build 1.1.5)
Improved Handling of Headings in Intelligent Formatting - In the previous release, Intelligent Formatting designs would occasionally insert asterisks around section headings in formatted notes. This issue has been resolved in SOAP Notes and custom designs. (S-18155, 5/16/2025, 20.1.0 b39)
One-Time Sign-In Required After 20.1.0 Deployment - If you use Auto Sign In to access Voice, you’ll need to sign in manually one time after the 20.1.0 update is installed. This is due to a security update that changes how passwords are stored. Once you sign in again, Auto Sign In will work just like it did before—no further action needed. (S-17918, 5/20/2025, 20.1 b37 - Voice build 1.1.7)
nVoq Administrator
Fix for Save Button Always Active for Intelligent Formatting Design - In the previous release the Save button at the bottom of the Edit Intelligent Formatting Design page was always active, even if no changes had been made on the page. This has been fixed. The Save button is now disabled until a change is made to the design form. (D-13772, 4/8/2025, 20.1.0 b14)
Fix for Inability to Change Name Casing on Intelligent Formatting Design - In the previous release you could not change the casing of a name of an existing Intelligent Formatting design (e.g. changing "progress note" to "Progress Note"). An error would state that the design could not be saved because the name already existed. The work-around options were to either delete the design with the incorrect name casing and then create a new design with the correct name casing, or to rename the design with a different name (e.g. "progress note 1"), save it, and then change the name again with the correct casing (e.g. "Progress Note"). In the 20.1.0 release you will be able to successfully change the casing of a name of a design without getting the error. (D-13768, 4/8/2025, 20.1.0 b14)
SYSTEM LEVEL - Fix for Errors on Intelligent Formatting Design Page for Customer Administrators - A system-level Customer Administrator is an internal nVoq account that has access to a tenant. In the previous release this type of account could access the Intelligent Formatting Design page at the tenant level in nVoq Administrator, but would get a 500 Error when attempting to retrieve, save, edit, or delete a design. This has been fixed. In the 20.1.0 release a system-level Customer Administrator can access Intelligent Formatting designs for a tenant and retrieve, save, edit, and delete them. (D-13746, 4/9/2025, 20.1.0 build 15)
Intelligent Formatting Design "Convert to Design"/"Generate Design" Button Improved - In the previous release you had to scroll down the New Intelligent Formatting page to click on the "Convert to Design" or "Generate Design" button to produce a design based on example or description. In the 20.1.0 release the button is always visible at the bottom of the page, no scrolling is needed. This button changes to a "Save" button after the design has been converted/generated. For designs created from scratch in the empty text area, the button is always labeled "Save." (S-18126, 4/9/2025, 20.1.0 b15)
Leading/Trailing Spaces Now Automatically Removed from Note Assist Category Names and Failure Responses - In the 20.0.0 release of nVoq Administrator it is possible to create a Note Assist failure response with leading spaces that appear in Mobile Voice for Android (they do not appear in Voice). In the 20.1.0 release of nVoq Administrator leading and trailing spaces will be automatically trimmed from Note Assist failure responses as well as category names. Category names or failure responses with leading or trailing spaces created in an earlier release of nVoq Administrator will be updated (to remove the extra spaces) after 20.1.0 deployment the next time the category is re-opened and saved. (D-13747, 4/17/2025, 20.1.0 b20)
R&C Error Definition for Audio Too Big Updated - The Audio Too Big error that you might see on the Review & Correct page has been updated to be time-based instead of size-based. In the 20.1.0 release a standard dictation is allowed to keep a WebSocket connection open and send audio for processing for 30 minutes, and a Conversations dictation is allowed 180 minutes (3 hours). (S-18035, 4/24/2025, 20.1.0 b26)
New Intelligent Formatting Warning Message User Property - A user property is created when a user clicks the "Don't show this message again" box on the new Intelligent Formatting warning message that appears if they attempt to close the Intelligent Formatting window without clicking the COPY button first. The property, "Show Leaving Message Intelligent Formatting" displays on the Edit Account page Properties tab and is labeled "False." When this property is "False" the user will never see the warning message in Intelligent Formatting. If they later decide they do want to see that message, you can restore the property for them on the Properties tab. There is not a way in Voice for them to clear this property themselves. (S-18146, 5/8/2025, 20.1.0 b34)
Increased Character Limit for Note Assist Failure Responses - In the previous release, failure responses were introduced that displayed in Voice and Mobile Voice below a failed Note Assist category, helping clinicians understand what’s missing from their note. However, the original 45-character limit often made it challenging to provide clear guidance. With this release, the character limit has been increased to 100 characters, allowing for more detailed and helpful responses to support clinicians in meeting documentation requirements. (S-18191, 5/13/2025, 20.1.0 b39)
Copy Note Assist Categories - In response to customer feedback, a new option has been added to allow you to copy existing Note Assist categories. When a category is copied, it opens in a new window and is immediately available for editing. The copied category retains the failure response and search list from the original, the only modification is the word “copy” appended to the end of the name. This enhancement streamlines the process of creating similar categories and reduces setup time. (S-18192, 5/14/2025, 20.1.0 b39)
Intelligent Formatting Design Type "Empty" Renamed - To improve clarity, the design type previously labeled "Empty" has been renamed "Manual Input." This option allows users to create a custom formatting design from scratch using a free text field. The updated label better reflects the functionality, helping users more easily understand when to use this design type. (S-18128, 5/14/2025, 20.1.0 b41)
New Help Links Added to Intelligent Formatting Design Page - To enhance usability, two new help links have been added to the New Intelligent Formatting Design page: A blue question mark icon next to the Description field heading links directly to documentation that explains each Intelligent Formatting design type—Based on Example, Brief Description, and Manual Input—so you can easily choose the best option for your needs. A second question mark icon appears next to the Assistant buttons, providing quick access to detailed guidance on what each button does and how to use them effectively. (This link is also available on the Edit Intelligent Formatting Design page, where those buttons are also present.) These additions are designed to make it easier to get the most out of Intelligent Formatting, right when you need it. (S-18128, 5/14/2025, 20.1.0 b41)
Improved Handling of Headings in Intelligent Formatting Custom Designs & SOAP Notes - In the previous release, Intelligent Formatting designs would occasionally insert asterisks around section headings in formatted notes. This issue has been resolved with an update to the Final Instruction feature used in custom designs. A new instruction—“Do not put asterisks around headings.”—has been added to the Final Instruction text to ensure cleaner, more professional output. (S-18155, 5/16/2025, 20.1.0 b39)
Fixed Issue with Adding Multiple Sentence Model Documents - Previously, when attempting to add multiple sentence model documents to an organization, only one document was successfully added, and there was no way to identify which document had actually been applied. The workaround was to upload one document at a time. This issue has been resolved. You can now upload and apply multiple sentence modeling documents at once (up to the modeling limit), and each will be properly recognized and utilized. (D-13812, 5/23/2025, 20.1.0 b46)
Sentence Model File Size Increase - Work is in progress in this release to increase the total sentence modeling limit from 1MB to 2MB. As a result of that work, the maximum allowed size for an individual sentence model document has been increased from 100MB to 500MB. Please note: The file size displayed in File Explorer may differ slightly from the actual byte size. nVoq Administrator allows files up to 500,000,000 bytes. To verify a document’s true size, check the file’s properties and refer to the byte value. (S-18265, 5/27/2025, 20.1.0 b46)
General Availability of Intelligent Formatting Designer - In the previous release, the Intelligent Formatting Designer was available in preview mode and could only be enabled via API for customers interested in testing the feature. Beginning with the 20.1.0 release, the Intelligent Formatting Designer will be generally available to all customers who have purchased premium Intelligent Formatting. (No work item, 5/27/2025)
General Availability of Label-Based Note Assist Categories - In the previous release, label-based Note Assist categories were offered in preview mode and required API configuration for customers who wished to test the feature. Starting with the 20.1.0 release, label-based categories are now generally available to all customers who have purchased the premium Note Assist offering. We currently support label-based categories for FAST, KPS, NYHA, and PPS. More information about how to use label-based categories can be found at https://support.nvoq.com/docs/administrator-help-note-assist-label-based-categories. Note that documentation on that page will not reflect 20.1.0 information until after 20.1.0 is deployed. (No work item, 5/27/2025)
Total Sentence Model Limit Increased - To help improve dictation accuracy, the total sentence model limit for organizations and accounts has been increased from 1.0MB to 2.0MB. This expanded capacity allows more customized data to be used for modeling, supporting more accurate speech recognition tailored to your user's documentation needs. If a user account has reached the 2MB limit, attempting to upload an additional sentence model document for that user will result in an error message: “Total size limit of 2.0MB was exceeded.” However, if the sentence model is added at the organization level, it may still apply to other user accounts that have not yet reached their individual limit. (S-18245, 5/29/2025, 20.1.0 b49)
New Reporting Option for Dictation Usage Detail Report - A new enterprise reporting platform is now available in nVoq Administrator for the Dictation Usage Organization Detail Report, delivering significantly faster data retrieval for large data sets. By default, all administrators will continue to run the legacy report, but system-level and customer administrators can be enabled (via API) to use the new data platform. There are known limitations. To enable the enterprise report, please contact nVoq support. (S-18105, 5/29/2025, 20.1.0 b51)

Fix for requestBoundaryTime value in WebSocket method:MODIFYDICTATION - In the 20.0.0 version of the API docs the MODIFYDICTATION documentation stated that “The
requestedBoundaryTime
can be used to indicate the time in seconds from the start of audio for the whole session at which the audio stream should switch to the next sub-dictation.” In the 20.0.0 release however you actually needed to treat that time relative to the current sub-dictation. This has been fixed. In the 20.1.0 version therequestBoundaryTime
value should be in seconds from the start of audio for the whole web socket session, as stated in the API documentation. (D-13753, 4/24/2025, 20.1.0 b26)Dictation Length Limits - In order to provide a definitive answer to the question, "What is the limit on dictation length?" the AUDIO_TOO_BIG errors have been updated to be time-based instead of size-based. In the 20.1.0 release a standard dictation is allowed to keep a WebSocket connection open and send audio for processing for 30 minutes, and a Conversations dictation is allowed 180 minutes (3 hours). (S-18035, 4/24/2025, 20.1.0 b26)
