Built-in substitutions are commands which are "built in" to the dictation server. They appear as substitutions in a dictation transcript on the Detail Review & Correct page, but are not listed on the Substitutions page for an organization or account in nVoq Administrator.
Built-in substitutions include:
- Caps...capitalize first letter of one word
- Caps On / Caps Off...capitalize first letter of all words
- All Caps...capitalize all letters of one word
- All Caps On / All Caps Off...capitalize all letters of all words
- Lowercase or Overwrite...start the first word of the dictation with a lowercase letter
- Number Next / Next Number...create an automatic numbered list
- Letter Next / Next Letter...create an automatic lettered list

Some formatting commands are NOT built-in substitutions but are instead accomplished using inverse text normalization (ITN).
These include:
- New Line / Next Line
- New Paragraph / Next Paragraph / Paragraph
- Capital A / Letter A
- Numeral 1 Period / One Period
- Open Quote / Quote
- Close Quote / Unquote
