Article Summary

Deployment Method

Mobile Device Management (MDM) software companies offer Google Play Store integration to better manage public Android applications for small- to large-scale deployments. The managed Google Play Store is the recommended deployment method for MDM, as nVoq.Mobile Voice is a public application in the Play Store. Once managed through the Play Store, your team can be set up to receive automatic updates. After the application is deployed users still need to follow the Mobile Voice setup wizard, which is documented at Mobile Voice: Initial Setup.

Basic Requirements

  • nVoq Account
  • Android device running version 10 or newer
  • High bandwidth/LTE internet connection
  • User files saved for nVoq.Mobile Voice
  • Device permissions:
    • android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
    • android.permission.BIND_INPUT_METHOD
    • android.permission.INTERNET
    • android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS
    • android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO
    • android.permission.READ_CONTACTS
    • android.permission.READ_USER_DICTIONARY
    • android.permission.VIBRATE
    • android.permission.WRITE_USER_DICTIONARY
  • Mobile Voice declares permissions it requires to support all of its features in an application-level manifest. Users typically have access to the record and contacts permissions through the Android Settings – Apps – nVoq.Mobile Voice configuration.
    • The system-level permission RECORD_AUDIO is required to use dictation in the application.
    • The system-level permission READ_CONTACTS is optional for suggestions when typing in an input area with the keyboard.
Google Android API documentation details the permissions at https://developer.android.com/reference/android/Manifest.permission

Privacy

While optional, it is recommended to uninstall non-HIPAA compliant keyboards with speech-to-text capabilities for effective migration to the nVoq.Mobile Voice keyboard with clinical HIPAA compliant speech recognition.  Examples of keyboards with speech recognition that are NOT HIPAA compliant include:

  • Google Keyboard (Gboard) with Google Assistant
  • Samsung Keyboard with Speech to Text

Tablet Configurations for nVoq.Mobile Voice

The following are nVoq.Mobile Voice common deployment methods. While every environment is unique, we have some recommendations based on best practices that have been proven to work. Your organization's deployment method may be different, but this guide helps to get us on the same page to better support your roll-out.

There are three recommended configurations for nVoq.Mobile Voice on tablets:

  1. MDM fully locked down
  2. Managed Google Play Accounts
  3. User has full access on tablet

MDM Fully Locked Down

In this configuration, IT gets the nVoq.Mobile Voice APK from Google Play Store and installs on end-user devices.

  • Updates for nVoq.Mobile Voice are sent through MDM to all end-user tablets.

Managed Google Play Accounts

In this configuration tablets can be set up to update ALL apps on the device automatically, or to only update nVoq.Mobile Voice automatically.

  • To configure tablets for automatic updates on ALL apps:
  1. Open the Play Store app.
  2. Tap the profile icon (top right).
  3. Tap Settings and then Network Preferences and then Auto-update apps.
  4. Select one of the following options:
    • Over any network to update apps using either Wi-Fi or mobile data.
    • Over Wi-Fi only to update apps only when connected to Wi-Fi.
If an account has a sign-in error, apps may not update automatically.
  • To configure tables for automatic updates ONLY for nVoq.Mobile Voice:
  1. Open the Play Store app.
  2. Tap the profile icon (top right).
  3. Tap Manage apps & device.
  4. Select Manage and then tap nVoq.Mobile Voice.

  6. Turn on Enable auto update.
When updates are available, the app updates automatically.

In this configuration the user can install nVoq.Mobile Voice on their own device from the Google Play Store and configure all apps on the device to update automatically.

  1. Open the Play Store app.
  2. Tap the profile icon (top right).
